Allure Beauty Box Fall Must-Haves Review

allure

I’m going to start off with a confession. I set a timer on my cell phone to make sure I got one of these boxes! I tried to get one of the Summer boxes a few months ago and it had sold out 10 minutes before. I couldn’t let that happen this time! I went on at 12:01 and quickly ordered my box and my order number was in the 800s! Allure beauty box is a seasonal box that is first come, first serve type of box and these sell out quick! Usually around 10-20 minutes! Crazy right?!

The Fall box was filled with around $350 worth of beauty goodies and was only $39 + $10 s/h + $2-$3 tax. totally worth it!! Almost everything was full-sized and the box weighed over 10lbs! I love that the items included are items that I will actually use! Plus tried and true bestsellers from high-end to drugstore products! I was not expecting it to ship so fast!

Here’s a look at what was in the box:

ALlureshave

1. Schick Hydro Silk Razor $6? //  This razor is AMAZZING! I usually use men’s razors but this was way better. It left my skin really smooth. I won’t be using any other razor and I’m so excited they have them at Sam’s club!

2. Skintimate Sensitive Skin Skin Therapy Moisturizing Shave Gel $3.79 // I’m happy they included this! It’s scent free and is pretty thick when I lathered it on my legs. Love it.

3.Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup $12.99// I tried this and didn’t like this at all. It reminded me of an episode of south park  “It’s a jersey thing”. I put a little on my legs and it was really streaky and orange. I’m going to try to mix it with some lotion so it’s not so intense.

4. Sally Hansen Ouch-Relief Pre-Wax Strip Kit $8.99 // I’m happy to have this, I wouldn’t have bought this on my own, mainly because I’m a big baby when it comes to waxing and I would rather have someone else inflict the pain on me. I’m excited that these are ouch-relief though! Being a girl can be so painful sometimes!!

face

5.Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash $6.99 // I like Neutrogena and I know this is a classic, but I have months worth of face wash so this is going to my mom.

6. RoC Multi Correxion Eye Treatment $25 // I have used this twice a day since it came in the mail. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I have been stressed to the max lately! Work, toddler, etc… this might be my favorite thing in the box! I love this more than the Philosophy “hope in a tube” I was using before.

7.Redermic R Dermatological Anti-Aging Treatment Intensive $56.99 // I’m a sucker for eye creams and skin care in general. I am so excited to try this. This is supposed to help  correct fine lines, deep wrinkles, and premature sun damage. It also has caffeine in it!

lotion

8. Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion, Fragrance Free // $11.49 I like Cetaphil and I really like this lotion. It’s not my absolute favorite but I love that it doesn’t have a fragrance and it’s hydrating.

9. Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Night Moisturizer $22 // This is supposed to correct dark spots in a week. I haven’t used it, but I’m glad they included this in the box.

10. Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer $8.99 // This was my first time using something from Simple. I was shocked at how hydrating the lotion actually was. It made my skin feel so fresh and healthy! I will be picking up more from this brand.

hair

11. Style Sign Magic Finish Brilliance Hairspray $17.99 //I have been using dry shampoo instead of hairspray this summer, but I tried it out and it didn’t leave my hair sticky or stiff. This will be great for the fall.

12.KMS California Hair Stay Anti-Humidity Seal $17.99 // Doesn’t smell bad, but not as good as my Bedhead “Headrush” shine spray . I have been using this after straightening my hair and every single time my hair stayed straight all day! Even in the east coast humidity! LOVE this! Where has this been all my life?!

13. Redken Satinwear 02 Ultimate Blow-Dry Lotion $18 // I adore Redken. This was very silky, smooth and added volume to my hair after blow drying it.

hairoil

14. Global Keratin Serum $25 //This was apparently supposed to be oil, but I got serum. No complaints here, I’ve never used this brand but I love using stuff like this on the ends of my hair because

15. Redken All Soft Argan-6 Oil $30 // Redken all soft collection is one of my favorites and I love argan oil.

hairmask

16. Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask $6.99 // I used this once and it didn’t work as well as the Carol’s daughter, it was thick and made my hair soft though. I also like the smell of this over the other.

17. Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Hair Mask $32 // I don’t like the smell of this at all. I have damage from coloring my hair and bleach from highlights. I did notice that the tangles disappeared when I was washing it out of my hair! I don’t think it was 96% repaired like it claimed. It worked really good, I just wish it didn’t have a strong floral scent.

nails

18. Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Cuticle Eraser + Balm $6 // This cuticle balm as a light cucumber scent. It’s really moisturizing and I really like it! I will probably buy this again when I run out!

19. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure $8 // All in one manicure ?! Sign me up! I’m all about saving time and I haven’t used this yet but I’m excited to try it. I love the color too!

20. Sation Nail Laquer in Wine-y Happy People $5 // This is a perfect fall color! Plus with football season starting this is perfect for me because I’m a Raven’s fan! Haven’t tried this yet, but I will be using it!

21. Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips $13 // I don’t know how I feel about the pattern that I got. It kind of reminds me of gaudy curtains. I do love the salon effects nail strips though and have tried this before. They’re perfect when you don’t have time to wait for your nails to dry. I also love using them for an accent nail!

pixi

22. ROC retinol correxion sensitive night cream- $1 //  An added bonus to my box! I gave this to my mom because she also loves stuff like this.

23.Pixi Eye Bright Liner No. 1 – Nude $17.00 // This eyeliner is supposed to make your eyes look bigger. I have eyeliners like this one, and I don’t really use them as much as other eyeliners. This is my first Pixi product that I have owned, I’m not crazy about it and probably wouldn’t pay full price for it.

24. Revitalizing Lip Balm with Blueberry and Dark Chocolate $3.30 // I didn’t like the smell of this, I love blueberry anything and Burt’s Bees is a brand I frequently buy, but I will be giving this away.

This  was my first box and it was amazing! So worth setting a timer on the phone and writing it down on my calendar! I will be doing the same thing when the next box comes out! For only $52 I got over $350 worth of beauty goodies and I think this may be the best valued box that I have ever bought!

What did you think of the Allure fall must have box? Have you ordered one?

XOXO,

Erin

Olay Fresh Effects review

I tried this product and had high hopes. I like Olay and I really thought that this product was going to be great. I received this product in my Influenster Sunkissed VoxBox. It’s a free box that Influenster sends out to members to test and review products. You can learn more about Influenster here, I have 2 more invites if you’re interested in joining. ( go to the contact page and I will email you an invite. )

Unfortunately I did not like this product at all. I have combination skin, that tends to be a little more on the oily side than dry. When I put this on the first time, I liked that it blended into my skin really easily. I also liked the scent at first, until I was wearing it on my face all day. If you’re sensitive to scents or perfumes, I do not recommend this product. I personally will not being using this as a base for my makeup. I didn’t like the sheer coverage it had and I did not like smelling like the BB cream all day. It made my face very oily and shiny. By the end of the day my makeup was all sorts of messed up.

Description on the box:

B.B. Cream, also known as beauty balm, is one of Asia’s hottest beauty sensations. Its multi-tasking formula works to moisturize, brighten and help protect skin from harmful UV rays. This silky, tinted lotion blends effortlessly with your natural skin tone, helping hide imperfections and minimizing the need for concealer and foundation. With just one use, skin will be left glowing naturally even.

it also states on the box: 6 skin perfecting Benefits: Refreshes, Brightens, Evens tone, Hydrates, Smoothes, Protects. All-in-one solution for instantly brighter-looking, smoother-feeling, more even skin tone.

I would only wear this if I was going to be outside for a short period of time. If I were to be at the beach or at the pool for a few hours, I would not put this product on. I did like that it made my face feel a little more hydrated. The Olay Fresh Effects BB cream only has SPF 15, which is really next to nothing (especially in the summer time). On the box it says to reapply at least every 2 hours, use water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating.

A little bit about the product:

$12.99 at most stores (Target, CVS, etc.) Not sold with the makeup, but I actually found this product in the skincare/face lotion section.

Comes in two shades: Fair to light and Light to medium (I personally have not found Medium to dark anywhere)

Directions: Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply at least every 2 hours. Use water resistant if swimming or sweating.

photo (42)

(swatch of the product).
Final verdict: This product just was not for me. If I had dry skin this product would have been better I think. I also think that maybe if I had gotten a shade that was a little darker, maybe that would have looked better on my skin. This product did make my face feel more hydrated after using it, but that’s pretty much the only thing I noticed about this BB cream.  If I were grading this product I would have to give it a D.

Have you tried Olay Fresh Effects BB cream? What did you think?

XOXO,

Erin

disclaimer: I received the Olay Fresh Effect BB cream, complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster. I was not paid for this review or post. All opinions of this product are my own.

Glossybox “American Beauty” June 2013 Review

Hello Gorgeous!

I finally got my Glossybox in the mailbox yesterday! It was at the same USPS sorting facility for 4 days! What makes it worse is, the sorting facility was only a little over an hour from my house! It’s here though, so I can’t complain too much. I ended up ordering two boxes this month. Both boxes ended up being exactly the same minus the nail polish colors. I loved the packaging this month! I Loved the change from the regular pink box to the white box with the “Glossy-girl” illustration.

Here’s what was in my boxes:

glossybox

C. Booth Honey Almond Dry Oil Mist– 2 fl. oz. /Value $4.00

I just received a product similar to this in my July Julep box. I’m sure I will use it, but I don’t know if I like the smell of the product or not.

ODLR

Oscar de la Renta Essential Luxuries collection (6 samples)/ Est. Value $5

These ended up spilling and leaking all over both boxes. I’m not a huge fan, but I’m also a die-hard Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue fan. I’ll give these a chance, they don’t smell bad. They’re really strong scents though.

phillip B

Phillip B. Katira Hair Masque- 2 fl. oz./Value $13.30

I haven’t opened this up yet but I’m really excited to try a new product from this company. I’ve heard some good things about it when I did a search online.

sparitual

SpaRitual favorites Nail Polish – colors: HIJINKS (Orange Shimmer) & Shooting Star (wine/purple shimmer) Value $12.00

I tried the color “Shooting Star” and it’s so pretty! I thought I was going to hate it, because I’m not usually into berry/wine colors but it’s a beauty purple with a lot of shimmer/fine glitter. This will be a perfect color for fall. I’m not that excited about the orange color, but I’ll give it a chance.

Tarte complexion enhancing lipstick

Tarte complexion enhancing lipstick (shade for fair to light) Value $14.50

I’m not big on lipstick. I will be trying this out though. the packaging is eco-friendly, but kind of flimsy. I would hate for the packaging of this product to get wet or slip into the sink because it’s made out of a cardboard maybe? I love the packaging colors though! I’m a huge Tarte fan so I hope this product is just as good as their other products.

Product description card/Dallas Shaw “Glossy Girl” illustration.  I like that the description card has the Glossy Girl illustration on the front of the card, and on the inside is the full description of the products. On the back of the card there is a note from Dallas Shaw.

The box also came with a June Glossyblog Mag. I thought it was finny that they still had a full article on Bondi New York. Even though they ended up having some issues and decided to pull out last minute. I’m happy they’re still in the magazine. It was a nice extra for the box.

Total value of each box was $48.83

I was not too pleased with the late shipping of this box. I ended up getting it yesterday (JULY 2nd) so I feel like they should work on shipping their boxes on time. Or the face that the perfume leaked all over both boxes.

Maybe I was a little too excited about these boxes. I was  most excited about the Bondi New York nail polish and that didn’t even end up in the box. Overall this month box was a great one so I can’t complain. I’m a sucker for limited edition and collaboration boxes!

Glossybox subscription is $21 a month. You get 5-6 deluxe samples and full-size products. Go to Glossybox.com to subscribe.

What did you think about this month’s Glossybox?

You can find spoilers for July’s box HERE. Also you can find out about Glossyboxes Limited edition wedding box in one of my recent posts HERE.

Julep Maven July 2013 California Coast Collection

This month I decided to go against my profile style which is “It-girl” and decided to go with the Bombshell box this month. I really wanted to get the entire set but was good and restrained from spending the $55.00. I did however end up adding a nail polish that was worth $4.99 but I ended up using 750 “Jules” points that I’ve saved up and it was free!

This week has been absolutely CRAZY! There will be new posts up soon, I promise. I should be getting my June Glossybox on Monday. It’s funny, Julep shipped from Washington State on the 27th and Glossybox shipped on the 26th from New Jersey (MAYBE 5-6  hours away) and is still not here. Kudos to Julep for fast shipping and stress-free experience. I’m kind of on my last straw with Glossybox. Hopefully the American Beauty Glossybox is worth it, that’s all I have to say!

julep destination mystery box June 2013

I was kind of disappointed with my first Julep Mystery boxes for June. I ended up ordering two of the three available and I’m relieved I saved $24.95 and didn’t buy the third box.  I ordered the Miami Destination box and the Laguna Destination box (the third box was the Hamptons Destination box). There are different versions of each box which can range from $70-200. Each of my boxes were both valued at the lower end of $70.

Mystery boxes come out after the monthly subscription boxes are shipped. Monthly subscriptions are $19.99 a month and right now you can use the PROMO CODE : Freemaven or Freebox to get your first box free at Julep.com . Mystery boxes are not a monthly plan and you can buy them without a subscription to Julep. The destination mystery boxes are now sold out.

photo (15)

I’ll start with the Miami box, which came in a bigger box than the Laguna box. I was so excited when the package came and that excitement was kind of deflated when I opened the box. The colors are great so I really can’t complain too much. I was excited because I had checked out previous Mystery boxes and most of them looked like a great value.

Here’s what I got in my Julep Miami Mystery box version #3:

Paris– Multidimensional holographic glitter top coat

Lauren– A hot tropical pink crème.

Isla–  A Soft milky-white metallic.

Dry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo- $22 (Without the maven discount)

Strawberry mint lip balm – $6 (no longer available on the Julep site)

photo (16)

Swatches of Lauren, Isla, Paris :

photo (19)

The value of the box, without the discount makes it exactly $70

I tried the Dry shampoo and there is NO WAY I would pay $22 for this product. I prefer “Not your mother’s dry shampoo a lot better (and it’s only $5-6). I didn’t notice any extra volume or texture with the Julep Dry shampoo. I was really excited about using it too.

I loved the Nail polish colors. I think I would rather pay the $7-$8 and just pick out my own polishes in the store.  Paris was my favorite out of the three in this box.

The Strawberry –Mint Lip balm was a nice treat. The smell is delicious and I have already used it a bunch on my lips. I can tell it’s not going to last very long because it almost melts onto your lips and a lot of product comes off when you use it.

Out of the two boxes the Miami box was my favorite.

Now on to the Julep Laguna Mystery box;  I’ll start by saying that out of all of the Julep polishes they could’ve sent me as a duplicate- They sent me my least-favorite polish of ALL TIME, Abbie. If you read my posts you’ll know that I got Abbie in my first intro box in May. I was excited to find the perfect yellow summer polish UNTIL I took off the polish and to my horror MY FINGER NAILS WERE STAINED A DISGUSTING YELLOW COLOR! They are still yellow, a month later. I’m so embarrassed when my polish chips and have had to explain it to co-workers why so they know that it’s not some crazy fungus on my nails. It’s partially my fault for not using a base coat, but still. So my exact thought when I opened my box was “Really, Julep? You seriously sent me this??”Rather than give this away I might throw it away, I haven’t decided yet.  Maybe it was just my nails that it happened to. I still really hate Abbie and want everyone to hear me vent!  Ok now that my vent is done, on to the box!

Here’s what I got in the Laguna mystery box version #5:

Julep Laguna Destination Mystery box

Cody – Cantaloupe orange crème $14

Fiona – Electric lime neon green crème $14

Abbie – Sunshine yellow crème$14

Glycolic hand scrub- $23 (Out of stock on the Julep site)

Strawberry mint lip balm – $6 (no longer available on the Julep site)

photo (18)

swatches of Fiona, Cody, and Abbie:

photo (20)

The lovely Strawberry-Mint Lip Balm

strawberry-mintl ip balm

The texture of the Gylcolic hand scrub:

photo (21)

Value for the Laguna box without the Maven discount: $71

I did not like the smell of the hand scrub at all. It’s very floral and I’m more of a citrus girl myself. If floral is your thing though, this is the perfect hand scrub for you. I loved that it made my hands super-soft after one use, but I can’t get past the floral smell. I might be giving this to my sister.

I liked 2 out of the three nail polishes in this box. Fiona and Cody are nice colors and I’m actually wearing Fiona right now.

The final Verdict: Julep Destination Mystery boxes get 3 stars out of 5. I don’t think I will be getting another mystery box for a while. I paid $50.00 for both boxes and I don’t think I got an outstanding deal. Sure both boxes were valued at $144 and I only paid $50, but half of the items I got, I will not end up using.

Julep said that if you ordered one of each of the boxes there were no chances that there would be any duplicates, but I got another Strawberry-Mint lip balm. No complaints here, I actually gave the extra one to my sister and she loves it. I feel like they were just trying to get rid of some old products and didn’t really plan these out as much as I thought they were going to be. I think I might skip next month’s monthly box, but I haven’t decided yet. Maybe I was being a little hard on this mystery box, but no sugarcoating here! Just thought I’d write exactly how I feel.

Did you get a box? What did you think of June’s mystery boxes?

XO- Erin

Birchbox June 2013 Wanderlust box

Hello Gorgeous!

This month Birchbox them was “wanderlust” and the samples in my box were perfect for my upcoming summertime adventures.

I’m loving the new Birchbox packaging. I went on the website earlier and noticed that they have redesigned it. I think they are going towards appealing to both females and males.

photo (10)

Here’s a detailed look of what was in my box:

Birchbox + Color club – Wanderlust collection – London Calling – $2 value

London Calling is a neon mint color.

I’m really into both neon colors and mint so this is a nail polish will go to good use.

$8 for the full set of Wanderlust nail polishes (set of 4)

Davines- Love smoothing shampoo – $7.50 value  (2.5 oz.)

What it is: A gentle shampoo packed with moisturizing Indian fig extract and olive oil.

I really like the smell of the shampoo, it’s fresh and not an overpowering scent.

Full-size bottle, $24/8 oz.

LAQA & CO-  Lil’ Lip Duo – $8 Value (1 Lip Duo .07 oz.)

Not a huge fan of this bold color, I’m intro more neutral colors. The pigment is beautiful and it’s really creamy and when I swatched the color it stained my hand. I think it’ll have great staying power.

Full-size includes two Lil’ Lip Duos (both .07 oz.) $16

suki – Exfoliate foaming Cleanser – $2.05 Value (.25 oz.)

Lemongrass extract + natural sugar

This is my favorite thing in the box. I love the zesty lemon smell and the texture is great also.

Full-size, $32.95/ 4 oz.

Beauty extras in my box:

Davines- Love smoothing Conditioner $1.41 Value (0.41 oz.)

Description: Rich, aromatic conditioner formulated with nourishing borage seed oil.

I like that they included a sample of the conditioner to go with the shampoo I got.

Full-size, $27.50/ 8 oz.

Davines- Oi/Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion – $0.50 Value  (0.10 oz.)

Description: An antioxidant-packed potion to instantly tame frizz and strengthen hair over time.

I like using oils in my hair because my hair is so damaged after going brunette to blonde a few months ago. I’m excited to use this product.

Full-size $40/ 8 oz.

The box also contained 4 cute Birchbox postcards from their 4 international Birchbox offices (New York, Paris, London, & Barcelona)

photo (9)

The value of my box was $21.46 (more than twice than I paid for my box.)

Birchbox is $10 a month and I think that the quality of products that I have received from Birchbox have been amazing. This is the most affordable beauty box I am subscribed to and it’s one of my favorites. It was worth being on a waiting list for this subscription.

If you want to subscribe to Birchbox you can check it out here:  Birchbox.com

What did you get in your Birchbox?
