Hello Three day weekend!

Hey guys!

I haven’t wrote a post in a few days and just wanted to say I’m not dead! I really hope all of you had an amazing 4th of July! I spend it with my little one and we enjoyed doing Sparklers and snakes! I know what you’re thinking, “She’s such a thrill seeker!”. Haha okay, well maybe not. I really wished we could’ve went down to the beach but I knew it was going to be CRAZY!

This week has been incredibly chaotic and crazy. I work at an international airport in the Washington D.C. area and with the 4th of July holiday that just passed, work has left me completely drained!  I love working with people, but when you work at an airport people are either in great moods or horrible moods — there is no happy middle. Summer time we see a lot more passengers than normal. This is my second summer at the airport and it’s even crazier because we haven’t been able to hire new people due to the economy. I work part time and I only have to work Friday-Monday so I can’t really complain. Hello three day weekend!

While I was at work, I looked at my phone and received an email from Erin @ Living in Yellow and I won one of her amazing giveaways! I was so ecstatic, especially after the day I was having. Let’s just say it started off horrible (i.e.Left my wallet at home and realized while I was half way to work, at the gas station.)  I don’t know how she does it, but her blog is so addicting! I definitely have blog envy and I love reading her posts about her blogging tips and her life. Go Check out her blog. Seriously, check it out!

I do have some exciting things coming up too! I will be doing a review on the one-year anniversary box from Popsugar! I’m looking forward to the July box and can’t wait to share it with you all! I should also be reviewing the Fabfitfun VIP box as well. I also have been working with some great companies and will be reviewing some new products and boxes soon! I also will be starting a weekly post about my weight loss/healthy lifestyle journey! Any suggestions are welcome!

I will be doing a giveaway soon!  I really want to thank all of the people that follow my blog, Twitter and Facebook page! It will be beauty products, stationary, gift card, and some other amazing products! It will be available for my US readers, I would love to do an international giveaway in the future! I have been blogging for three months and I’m completely hooked! I love all of the new friends I have met while blogging! While I do love all of my friends, It’s nice to have people that I can talk about beauty products and subscription boxes, and etc. without driving my friends nuts!

Has anyone been watching Dexter?! Whoa! I watched the last two episodes and I’m so sad that this will be the last season! I really think Dexter might die this season at the end. Maybe I’m just being crazy, but I think that someone will end up killing him. Maybe the Doctor in the new season? Anyone else feel like she’s also a killer? And a total 360 for Deb’s character! I’m glad that this last season is going out with a BANG! What did you think?

Lazy, rainy days

Hello There!

Hopefully the weather is a lot nicer where you are. Right now it looks like it wants to rain and the humidity is intense. The sky looks so depressing! I had planned to do some hiking today but I think that’s not going to happen now. I’m currently sitting indoors, looking out the window and enjoying my homemade iced coffee (thanks to the Samoa flavored coffee creamer!!!!) I’m seriously in love with the coconut & caramel flavor! I have gotten some great news about some of my subscription boxes today too!

The Summer FabFitFun VIP boxes will begin to ship next week (Finally!). They initially were supposed to ship around June 20th and honestly I don’t know what happened but I’m excited to get my first box! They just emailed me today to tell me that boxes were going to ship next week and that they would be charging my account soon. This will be FabFitFun’s second box and they ship every 3 months and cost $49.99. Every season there is a new box.  The boxes feature beauty, fashion, fitness, and wellness. The items are picked by Giuliana Rancic  and the FabFitFun team. I read a lot of reviews of people that were not satisfied with their spring VIP boxes. I’m taking a gamble with this box but I really hope this month will be a lot better. The only thing I don’t like is that their website is going through a lot of construction and I have had problems logging in. Fortunately, the customer service team has been awesome and has answered pretty fast. To order your own box go to https://vip.fabfitfun.com/

julep destination mystery box June 2013

I was kind of disappointed with my first Julep Mystery boxes for June. I ended up ordering two of the three available and I’m relieved I saved $24.95 and didn’t buy the third box.  I ordered the Miami Destination box and the Laguna Destination box (the third box was the Hamptons Destination box). There are different versions of each box which can range from $70-200. Each of my boxes were both valued at the lower end of $70.

Mystery boxes come out after the monthly subscription boxes are shipped. Monthly subscriptions are $19.99 a month and right now you can use the PROMO CODE : Freemaven or Freebox to get your first box free at Julep.com . Mystery boxes are not a monthly plan and you can buy them without a subscription to Julep. The destination mystery boxes are now sold out.

I’ll start with the Miami box, which came in a bigger box than the Laguna box. I was so excited when the package came and that excitement was kind of deflated when I opened the box. The colors are great so I really can’t complain too much. I was excited because I had checked out previous Mystery boxes and most of them looked like a great value.

Here’s what I got in my Julep Miami Mystery box version #3:

Paris– Multidimensional holographic glitter top coat

Lauren– A hot tropical pink crème.

Isla–  A Soft milky-white metallic.

Dry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo- $22 (Without the maven discount)

Strawberry mint lip balm – $6 (no longer available on the Julep site)

Swatches of Lauren, Isla, Paris :

The value of the box, without the discount makes it exactly $70

I tried the Dry shampoo and there is NO WAY I would pay $22 for this product. I prefer “Not your mother’s dry shampoo a lot better (and it’s only $5-6). I didn’t notice any extra volume or texture with the Julep Dry shampoo. I was really excited about using it too.

I loved the Nail polish colors. I think I would rather pay the $7-$8 and just pick out my own polishes in the store.  Paris was my favorite out of the three in this box.

The Strawberry –Mint Lip balm was a nice treat. The smell is delicious and I have already used it a bunch on my lips. I can tell it’s not going to last very long because it almost melts onto your lips and a lot of product comes off when you use it.

Out of the two boxes the Miami box was my favorite.

Now on to the Julep Laguna Mystery box;  I’ll start by saying that out of all of the Julep polishes they could’ve sent me as a duplicate- They sent me my least-favorite polish of ALL TIME, Abbie. If you read my posts you’ll know that I got Abbie in my first intro box in May. I was excited to find the perfect yellow summer polish UNTIL I took off the polish and to my horror MY FINGER NAILS WERE STAINED A DISGUSTING YELLOW COLOR! They are still yellow, a month later. I’m so embarrassed when my polish chips and have had to explain it to co-workers why so they know that it’s not some crazy fungus on my nails. It’s partially my fault for not using a base coat, but still. So my exact thought when I opened my box was “Really, Julep? You seriously sent me this??”Rather than give this away I might throw it away, I haven’t decided yet.  Maybe it was just my nails that it happened to. I still really hate Abbie and want everyone to hear me vent!  Ok now that my vent is done, on to the box!

Here’s what I got in the Laguna mystery box version #5:

Julep Laguna Destination Mystery box

Cody – Cantaloupe orange crème $14

Fiona – Electric lime neon green crème $14

Abbie – Sunshine yellow crème$14

Glycolic hand scrub- $23 (Out of stock on the Julep site)

Strawberry mint lip balm – $6 (no longer available on the Julep site)

swatches of Fiona, Cody, and Abbie:

The lovely Strawberry-Mint Lip Balm

The texture of the Gylcolic hand scrub:

photo (21)

Value for the Laguna box without the Maven discount: $71

I did not like the smell of the hand scrub at all. It’s very floral and I’m more of a citrus girl myself. If floral is your thing though, this is the perfect hand scrub for you. I loved that it made my hands super-soft after one use, but I can’t get past the floral smell. I might be giving this to my sister.

I liked 2 out of the three nail polishes in this box. Fiona and Cody are nice colors and I’m actually wearing Fiona right now.

The final Verdict: Julep Destination Mystery boxes get 3 stars out of 5. I don’t think I will be getting another mystery box for a while. I paid $50.00 for both boxes and I don’t think I got an outstanding deal. Sure both boxes were valued at $144 and I only paid $50, but half of the items I got, I will not end up using.

Julep said that if you ordered one of each of the boxes there were no chances that there would be any duplicates, but I got another Strawberry-Mint lip balm. No complaints here, I actually gave the extra one to my sister and she loves it. I feel like they were just trying to get rid of some old products and didn’t really plan these out as much as I thought they were going to be. I think I might skip next month’s monthly box, but I haven’t decided yet. Maybe I was being a little hard on this mystery box, but no sugarcoating here! Just thought I’d write exactly how I feel.

Did you get a box? What did you think of June’s mystery boxes?

June 2013 Julep Maven Nantucket Nostalgia Collection

This month I ordered the “Bombshell box” from Julep. This is my second box and I’m not going to lie, I came so close to ordering the entire collection! This month I decided that I was only going to buy one add-on and I’m definitely pleased with my entire box!photo 2 (1)

Update: On a side note before I get into what I got inside my box, last month I got the “It girl” Intro box with a bright yellow Crème nail polish color called “Abbie”. My first reaction after I put it on was vindication that I had finally gotten the perfect neon yellow for summer UNTIL I took it off! My finger nails are still stained French’s mustard yellow. WTF?!? So my advice for anyone uses that polish is to wear a base coat! It’s probably my fault for not putting it on underneath the polish in the first place, but I was so shocked when I took off the polish. I look at my nails in shame now 

I got 3 nail polishes (Payton, Raegan, and Bunny), the new julep DD cream (Light) and a couple pieces of salt water taffy! I added the white nail polish “Bunny” for $4.99 with my box.

I’m in love with the colors of this box! Payton is a beautiful Kelly green crème, Raegan is an Electric dark pink Crème and Bunny is a Crisp white linen with fine gold shimmer.

The new DD cream is valued at $36.00 regular price and if you’re a Julep Maven it’s only $28.80

On the julep website it says: “A dynamic do-all makeup that goes beyond BB crème to moisturize, prime, perfect, and protect—both instantly and over time.”

photo 1

• It has SPF 25
• Anti-aging ingredients that decrease the appearance of pores and fine lines
• Hibiscus and olive extracts for hydrated skin
• Buildable coverage and smooth finish
• Comes in four shades: Light, Medium, Medium-dark, Dark

My total box value was around $78 (full price without the Julep Maven discount)
With the Maven discount this box is worth about $62

The Julep box is a monthly subscription service that is about $20 a month. Every month on the 24th they send you an email with your monthly picks for the upcoming box. If you like what they’ve picked out for you, you don’t have to do anything. You have the chance to skip your box, pick a different box, add items into your box for an additional fee, get the entire collection, or send it to a friend. They Charge you on the 27th of the month and send it out after that.

Pros:
• You can skip the monthly box if you don’t like what’s in the box, want to send it to a friend or if you just want to save your $20+
• The colors are beautiful and you only really need one coat to get the true color of the product.
• Packaging is beautiful

Cons:

  • In my first box, one of the nail polishes severely stained my fingers yellow (and they have been stained for about 7-8 days now)
  • The products that come in the box are pretty tiny compared to Essie/OPI/Zoya.

If you want to order the Julep box you can use the promo code – Freemaven  or Freebox  and  get your box for free, only pay the $3.95 shipping and handling!  Click on the picture below:
